NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)

For

EFFECTIVE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT FOR THE ELDERLY

As part of its planning process, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD), Department of Health (DOH), is seeking through this RFI verbal and written comments to address the goal of reducing the possibility of mismanagement of prescription and over-the-counter medications by older adults that can result in unnecessary hospitalization or nursing home admission. Insurance companies, community pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals that provide structured medical management assistance to older adults or their caregivers are invited to participate in this RFI.

Comments and input will assist ADAD to plan for future procurement of services for effective medication management for the elderly including:

· How best to serve the various geographic areas in the State of Hawaii where shortages of services may occur;

· Data collection and the mechanism for the collection, evaluation, and utilization of data;

· Cost considerations; and

· Best practices.

Thus, ADAD is planning an informational meeting to discuss the above issues on June 26, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. at Department of Health Kinau Hale, 1250 Punchbowl Street, Board Room 1^st Floor, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. In preparation for this meeting, interested parties should review the RFI at the Department of Health ADAD website www.hawaii.gov/health/substance-abuse (click on Request for Information: Community-Based Services) and request a copy of the prior rfp which will be available from June 22^nd between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at the ADAD office in Kapolei. Comments may also be faxed to ADAD at (808) 692-7521, Attention: Virginia Jackson; emailed to virginialee.jackson@doh.hawaii.gov.; or mailed to the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, 601 Kamokila Boulevard, Room 360, Kapolei, Hawaii 96707 anytime prior to 4:30 p.m., June 25, 2007.
