Abuse 1998 Hawai`i Student Alcohol and Other Drug
Use Surveys
The purpose of this survey was to assess the nature
and scope of tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use among public and
private school students in the sixth, eighth, tenth, and twelfth grades
throughout the state of Hawaii and to determine substance abuse
treatment needs and methods for meeting those needs. The survey was
administered anonymously to the students in the spring of 1998.
Participation required parental consent and was voluntary. A total of
19,930 public school students and 5,476 private school students
participated.
