Federal Aviation Administration Renewal to Provide Hawaii Airports $6 Million Annually in Additional Funding

2/12/12 -  The state Department of Transportation Airports Division (DOTA) applauds the four-year renewal of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that will provide an estimated $6 million in additional funding each year for Hawaii’s airports. The law was signed by President Barack Obama on February 14, 2012. The additional funding will come from the FAA Airport Improvement Program and will be used for capital improvement and basic maintenance projects at airports statewide. Read more

 

Partial Closures of HNL Inter-Island Parking Garage Through February 14

01/18/12 -- The DOT announces that various floors of the Honolulu International Airport Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be closed for cleaning through February 14.  Read more

 

HNL to Close Runways for Maintenance

01/03/12 - The state Department of Transportation advises Ewa residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the area due to airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport.
Runway 8R/26L will be closed for airfield maintenance work from 12 a.m. on Wednesday morning, January 4, through 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 7.  During this time, flight patterns will be modified resulting in increased air traffic over the Ewa Plains area.

Governor Abercrombie Approves of Completed HNL Projects

11/01/11 - Governor Neil Abercrombie today inspected four recently completed improvement projects at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) that addressed needed repairs and greatly enhanced the airport’s appearance while incorporating Hawaii’s unique culture and environment. Read more

 

Newly Redesigned and Renovated Ticketing Lobby Unveiled at HNL

10/27/2011 -- The state Department of Transportation Airports Division (DOTA) unveiled a newly-renovated ticketing lobby at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) today that is the latest example of DOTA’s long term goal of modernizing HNL while incorporating Hawaii’s unique cultural and natural environment in the design.  The renovated and redesigned Lobby 8 in the main terminal building includes a brightly colored back wall made of cast glass, depicting the Pacific Ocean, and a “wave” wall made of shaped wood above the entire lobby.

Exclusive New Shuttle Service Selected to Operate at HNL

10/17/11 -SpeediShuttle has been selected by the Hawai‘i State Department of Transportation to operate the exclusive concession to provide on-demand shuttle service for passengers arriving at Honolulu International Airport beginning October 16, 2011. SpeediShuttle is headquartered in Maui operating on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Big Island and Kauai. The five-year concession award was the result of a competitive proposal process that included six of the largest ground transportation companies in Hawai‘i. Read more

 

Blessing Ceremony Held for Honolulu International Airport's Emergency Power Facility

10/11/2011 - The state Department of Transportation’s Airport Division (DOTA) held a brief blessing ceremony today marking the start of construction for the Emergency Power Facility (EPF) at the Honolulu International Airport.  The EPF will use four generators to provide up to 10 megawatts of electrical power to the airport in the event of a major emergency or natural disaster. 10/5/2011 - The DOT's Airports Division's "live fire" exercise today, was a Federal Aviation Administration certification requirement, testing the state's response preparedness and communications capabilities in the event of an actual emergency. Read more

Honolulu International Airport Temporary Runway Closures to Route Air Traffic over Ewa Plains in July

 7/07/11 - Oahu residents are advised of an expected increase in aircraft traffic noise over the Ewa plains area due to airfield construction work to repave runways and taxiways at the Honolulu International Airport during July. The airfield construction work will be on Saturday, July 9, through Saturday, July 30, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly. There will be no work on Sunday and Friday nights.

 

S&P Upgrades Hawaii Airport System Revenue Bond Rating to "A" Grade

07/01/11 - Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services has increased the Hawai'i Airport System’s revenue bond rating from an “A-” grade to an “A” grade, citing a stable future outlook. The ratings upgrade was based on S&P’s positive analysis of the airport system’s strong financial liquidity and increased certainty over the scope and size of its capital improvement plans. HNL Temporary Runway Closures       

Oahu residents are advised of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over downtown Honolulu due to airfield maintenance at Honolulu International Airport. Runway 8R will be closed from Tuesday night, May 17, to Thursday morning, May 19, and also from Monday night, May 23, to Thursday morning, May 26, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly, for airfield maintenance. Flight patterns for departing aircraft will be modified resulting in increased air traffic over downtown Honolulu.

 

HNL Temporary Runway Closures

The state Department of Transportation advises Oahu residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over downtown Honolulu and Ewa plains areas due to airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport for the next two weeks. Runway 4R will be closed from Sunday night, April 17, through Friday morning, April 22, and also from Sunday night, April 24, through Friday morning, April 29, from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., nightly, for airfield maintenance work. During these times, flight patterns for arriving and departing aircraft will be modified resulting in increased air traffic over downtown Honolulu and Ewa plains areas.

 

Parking Rates to Increase at Hawaii Airports on May 1, 2011 

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises air travelers of new parking rates at Hawaii airports statewide effective on Sunday, May 1, 2011.  Daily parking rates will increase at the Honolulu International Airport by $2, from $13 to $15 per day, and at neighbor-island airports by $1, from $9 to $10 per day.  Revenues generated will help to offset capital costs of airport improvements under the New Day Work Project. Honolulu International Airport Valet Parking Service To End Operations On Feb. 28

Valet parking service at the Honolulu International Airport’s Interisland Terminal will be ending operations effective Monday, February 28, 2011, due to declining public use. February 17, 2011.  Read more

Hawaii Airports Gear Up for Thanksgiving Holiday Travel

The state Department of Transportation reminds travelers that Hawai‘i's commercial airports will become increasingly busy this week due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Additional parking will be made available at all state airports, however, air travelers are encouraged to be dropped off or picked up, utilize taxis, airport shuttles or other means of transportation. HNL Temporary Runway Closures Begin September 21, 2010

The state Department of Transportation advises Oahu residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the downtown and Ewa plains area due to airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport. Runway 4R will be closed continuously, 24 hours per day, from 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, through 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, for airfield maintenance work. During these times, flight patterns for both departing and arriving aircraft will be modified resulting in increased air traffic over the downtown and Ewa plains area. NEW STATE OF THE ART EXPLOSIVE DETECTION SYSTEM TO BE INSTALLED AT HNL

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) broke ground today for a new state-of-the-art Explosive Detection System (EDS) that will be installed at Honolulu International Airport. The work is part of the Honolulu International Airport EDS Integration Improvements Project, which will install 16 TSA-provided in-line explosive detection machines in Lobbies 4, 5, 7, and 8 of the Overseas Terminal. The new EDS machines are equipped with the most current security system providing fully-integrated, enhanced baggage screening matrices capable of detecting explosives, weapons, and other contraband materials to provide a safe environment for travelers. STATE OF HAWAII SELLS $644.98 MILLION IN AIRPORT REVENUE BONDS

Governor Linda Lingle announced today that the Department of Transportation Airports Division successfully sold $644.98 million of revenue bonds to fund various capital projects for the State’s Airports Modernization Plan and to refinance existing debt to provide significant savings to airports statewide.  Among the new projects to be financed with the proceeds of this bond sale is the new mauka concourse at the interisland terminal at the Honolulu International Airport. $37 MILLION RELEASED FOR HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MODERNIZATION

Governor Linda Lingle has released $36,902,000 as part of the State’s continuing efforts to modernize Hawai‘i’s airports.  The funds will be used for the Terminal Modernization Program at Honolulu International Airport (HNL), including site preparation work for a new Mauka Concourse which will be located mauka of the existing Interisland Terminal. NEW INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS CORRIDOR AT HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPENS TO THE PUBLIC

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) is dedicating the first phase of the new International Arrivals Corridor (IAC) on October 14, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. The enclosed, air-conditioned IAC with autowalk systems will provide an easy, secure route to the Federal Inspection Services area for arriving international passengers. More than 80% of travelers arriving from overseas will be utilizing this new corridor.  This project is part of the state’s $2.3 billion, multi-year plan to modernize the airports statewide.  Read more 

                

Giant Mosaic Mural To Commemorate Hawaii's 50th Anniversay of Statehood Unveiled at Honolulu International Airport

As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Hawai‘i’s statehood, a giant mosaic mural featuring artwork by students nationwide was unveiled today at the Honolulu International Airport.  Made up of over 8,000 unique images, the mural was created as a lasting tribute to our state.  Lt. New Economy Lot To Open And Grace Period For Parking Implemented As Statewide Parking Rates Increase

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising air travelers of new parking rates at Hawaii airports throughout the state. The state Department of Transportation (DOT) is pleased to offer a new monthly parking program at the Honolulu International Airport (HNL) beginning June 1, 2009. The DOT will be reserving 50 out of the 100 valet stalls for those who are interested in purchasing a Gold Parking Monthly Pass. Valet Parking Promotion at HNL

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) is pleased to announce it has begun offering a special promotional discount for valet parking at Honolulu International Airport (HNL).  From now through the end of April, travelers can save $5.00 per day on valet parking ($15.00 per day), which is available on the fourth floor of the Interisland parking structure.  The regular price is $20.00 a day.  March 9, 2009.  Read more

Economy parking lot at Honolulu International Airport temporarily closing 

The state Department of Transportation is advising travelers that the Honolulu International Airport Economy Parking Lot at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive will be closing temporarily effective Monday, October 6, 2008, due to the decrease in parking demand. Ampco Parking Systems will not allow vehicles to park in the Economy Lot if a traveler’s return flight is after October 5th, as all vehicles must be picked up by 12:00 midnight on October 5th.  Read more
