Honolulu International Airport Runway Closure Resumes For Pavement Maintenance

HONOLULU – The state Department of Transportation advises Ewa and Downtown Honolulu residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the area due to airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport.

Runway 4R-22L will be closed from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., Sunday through Thursday evenings, weekly, through the end of December 2014. Construction began in April 2014 but was postponed during the month of July in support of RIMPAC exercises.

Runway repairs include pavement resurfacing and grooving and marking installations. Flight patterns will be modified, resulting in increased air traffic over Downtown Honolulu and the Ewa Plains.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation appreciates residents’ understanding and patience during these necessary repairs.
