Things To Do While You Wait
Hilo International is surrounded by gardens, many with sculptures, that showcase local plants. The ceramic Lava Forest, above, was created by sculptor Toshiko Takaezu as part of the State of Hawaii Art in Public Places program in 1980.
General Lyman Exhibit
An exhibit featuring the life and work of Brigadeer General Albert Lyman for whom the terminal is named, may be found in the waiting lobby. He was the first person of Hawaiian ancestry to become a General in the U.S. Army. The exhibit is maintained by the Lyman House in Hilo.
Mauna Kea Virtual Tour
While waiting you may take a virtual tour of Mauna Kea where many nations house telescopes. The computerized tour is located in the waiting lobby.
Hawaii Shell Collection
Peruse a large collection of Hawaii shells donated by Hiraki and Henry Matsuda. The display is located in the waiting lobby.
