Employers can refer their employees to existing short-term, non-credit training courses such as those offered at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges and other ETF approved public and private training vendors. The program is open to all within a company. Training courses that are available include, but not limited to: computer, business, management, health, medical training, or soft skills training.
Eligibility:
1. Employee(s) must be referred by their employer;
2. Requested training must be related to employee's present position;
3. Requested training does not supplant or subsidize training that is directly related to the goods and services that an employer provides to the public.
Company Requirements:
1. Agrees to notify ETF and the training provider(s) for class cancellations/substitutions at least 1 week prior to the start of the class; otherwise, the ETF participant may be suspended from accessing ETF funds;
2. Contributes 50 per cent of the ETF assistance provided by the DLIR for training pursuant to Act 248, SLH 2002. Currently, ETF's assistance has a tuition cap not to exceed $500 per course, therefore the DLIR will pay up to, but not exceed, $250 per course; any excess balance thereof shall be paid by the employer to the vendor. ETF's assistance shall not include the cost of books, tools, equipment, and auxiliary and support services; payment for these materials and services shall be made by the employer or the ETF participant;
3. Ensures that ETF receives the enrollment request at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the class.
Note: For any applicant substitutions, a separate Employer Referral and Course Registration Agreement must be completed and submitted to ETF for approval prior to the start of the class.
Government workers or government subsidized employees of a company are not considered eligible.
