TITLE REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO ESTABLISH A PILOT
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION TRAINING PROGRAM ON KAUAI.

DESCRIPT BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
Nineteenth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of
1997, that the Department of Education is requested to establish a
pilot cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training program as part
of the 10th grade health curriculum currently required;
high schools in the District of Kauai for the following purposes:
health classes and the feasibility of expanding the pilot
program to high schools in other districts;
the county Fire Department and the American Heart
Association or the American Red Cross to provide certified
instructors and to ensure that the health program in grade
10 meets established standards for CPR training and
certification; and
should adopt CPR training and certification as a
prerequisite for graduation; and
implementation of the pilot program to be submitted to the
Legislature no later than ten days prior to the Regular Session of

TITLE RELATING TO STANDING AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES AUTHORIZED TO CONDUCT
HEARINGS DURING THE INTERIM BETWEEN THE ADJOURNMENT OF THE REGULAR
SESSION OF 1997 AND THE CONVENING OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF 1998.

DESCRIPT BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
Nineteenth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of
1997, that the various standing committees as presently constituted,
or sub committees thereof, or special committees, of this body are
hereby authorized, as permitted by the Speaker of the said House, to
meet to gain information and conduct hearings in the interim between
the adjournment of this Regular Session of 1997 and the convening of
the Regular Session of 1998 on matters of concern to the House and
to that particular committee, and in connection therewith to employ
such assistance as permitted by the said Speaker; and
time to time such special committees with such members, functions
and duties as the Speaker shall appoint and designate to be
necessary for the committees to carry out the purpose of this
Resolution; and
committees to issue subpoenas that such will only be issued as may
be provided by law and as permitted by the Speaker; and
payments of any sort made except with the written approval of the
standing committees and special committees aforesaid is in addition
to any other authorization heretofore granted relating to the
establishment and activity of a House standing committee or special
committee in the interim between the 1997 and 1998 Regular Sessions
of the Legislature; provided that the Speaker may, at his
discretion, limit the number of members of the House participating
on a committee notwithstanding any other authorization heretofore
granted; and
the committees, sub committees, or special committees, including
their respective findings and recommendations, will be made
within ten days after the convening of the Regular Session of 1998.
