Search CARD provides a single search argument. Each argument contains
these fields:
- Location
- Select all libraries (default) or deselect to restrict search to
desired libraries.
- Search for
:
- Enter the words you are searching for. Multiple
words and wildcards are allowed. The search is not case-sensitive; it
does not matter whether you enter words in upper-case or lower-case.
- In field
:
- Select a type of field (Author, Location, Title, etc.) to search,
or use the default (All Fields) to search entire CARD records. The
current list of field types includes:
- All Fields (default)
- Call Number
- Location
- Author
- Title
- Publisher
- Description
- Contents
- Series
- Notes
- Keywords
- Doc Number
Select desired Maximum number of returns. Options are:
- 12
- 50
- 100 (default)
- 200
- 500
- 1000
To search, click on the Search CARD button.
To clear the search argument, click on the Clear button.
Search Results are listed and summarized. Click on the number
of the title from the returned list to bring up the full card entry.
Select a field in Sort by to arrange results list by desired field
order (e.g., Sort by CallNo to print out results in shelf list order.
Select View All Entries to view entire list in full record
display.

Using multiple words:
- Default. Enter search terms to locate records in which ALL
terms occur:
e.g. health children welfare
- Enter or between terms to locate records
in which ANY
of the terms occur:
e.g. elderly or aged or senior*
- Enter not between search terms to locate
records with one term
but not the other:
e.g. tax* not excise
- Enclose phrases within quotation marks, " ":
e.g. "state of hawaii data
book"
- Enter stem words with an asterisk,*:
e.g. tax* will locate tax and
taxation and taxes, etc.
- Use parentheses, ( ), with conjunctions
(and, or, not) to nest parameters:
e.g. tax* and (excise or
income) will locate excise tax or income
tax
- Enter fieldname.search-term to
restrict a particular word to a field:
e.g. (federal or income) and (title.tax)
Using wildcards:
- Words may be entered in upper or lower case.
- A question mark matches any single character:
e.g. c?t will locate cat, cot,
cut, etc.
199? will locate 1999, 1998, 1997, etc.

Detailed Search provides multiple search arguments. Additional

conjunctions is:
- add/delete

- Create a new search argument (a Search for box, etc); or,
delete a search argument.
