Application forms for a card are available at the library. At least one day should be allowed for processing an application. Additional days for postal delivery should be allowed if the card is not picked up at the library.
There is no charge for the initial permanent or annual renewable card. There is, however, a charge of $25.00 for each replacement card.
The patron is responsible for all items charged out on his/her card.
In order to borrow materials patrons must present a valid Supreme Court Law Library card to the staff at the Circulation Desk each time material is checked out. Patrons must provide their name and telephone number on the sign-out card in each book. Staff will stamp the due date on the due slip inside the book.
Circulating material may generally be kept for a period of two weeks, subject to immediate recall as deemed necessary by the librarian. The loan period for material in heavy demand may be limited at the discretion of the librarian. Books and other materials to be returned should be left at the Circulation Desk or in the book drop at the circulation area. Books returned after regular hours may be deposited into the book return near the main Queen Street doors.
The library reserves the right to limit the number of books on a specific subject that can be charged out by an individual during the same loan period.
Books may be renewed if not requested by another patron. Renewals must be made in person, although telephone renewals by outer island patrons will be accommodated. Only two consecutive renewals are allowed.
Materials borrowed or renewed for another individual on O`ahu must be accompanied by that person's library card and a note on letterhead authorizing the use of the card by the messenger.
Library materials not returned within 60 days after the due date will be considered lost. Borrowers will be assessed replacement costs and other applicable fines and fees.
Patrons who deliberately ignore recall of materials or refuse to return overdue materials or disregard billings for fines/fees are subject to suspension of library privileges, deprivation of the use and services of the law library, and other appropriate disciplinary action determined by the Supreme Court.
Limited staff and resources preclude the processing of requests by attorneys for titles held by libraries outside of the Hawai`i State Law Library System.
Satellite library staff will handle requests for loan of materials for court staff only.
Attorneys must arrange their own loans, returns, and requests for copies of materials among the libraries in the Hawai`i State Law Library System.
