Clean-energy summit
Lt. Governor Aiona today participates in the Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit & Expo. The event will center on various renewable-energy initiatives and policies throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Turning around young lives
Lt. Governor Aiona today briefs family-court judges on an intervention program designed, in part, to prevent young people from ending up in the state's youth correctional facility by providing them with hope and opportunities as well as helping them realize their potential.
Budget update
Hawai`i residents get an update today on the labor negotiations that are part of efforts to cure the state's financial troubles. Governor Linda Lingle will give a 30-minute web address, starting at 3 p.m. It will be carried live on the Governor's website at www.hawaii.gov/gov.
Hawai`i Writers Conference opens
Lt. Governor Aiona today opens the 2009 Hawai`i Writers Conference, which features more than 1,500 authors, screenwriters, journalists, as well as top literary agents, editors and film executives from around the world.
Recognizing public service
Lt. Governor Aiona today offers his support to a charitable event that raises money to help buy emergency equipment, which allows rescue workers within the Hawai`i County Fire Department to better do their jobs.

Ushering in new era for school in Windward O`ahu
Lt. Governor Aiona today participates in the grand opening of a gymnasium for LeJardin Academy, which has had to borrow facilities across Windward O‘ahu for its athletic teams to play in.
State preps schools for spread of flu
Consent forms are due Friday at schools offering free seasonal flu vaccines to prevent the virus from sickening large numbers of students. The state Department of Health and the Department of Education are taking steps to make sure that the seasonal flu does not disrupt learning in schools across Hawai`i.
Renewed focus on financial literacy
The Administration continues to make financial literacy among Hawai`i teens a statewide priority. Starting Sept. 14, high-school students in grades 9 through 12 will be able to sign up for the 2009-2010 LifeSmarts Consumer Education Competition, designed to teach teens to avoid the dangers of debt.
Wrapping up the rodeo season
Another rodeo season comes to an end today with Lt. Governor Aiona offering his support to Hawai`i cowgirls who will demonstrate their riding skills in the annual All-Girls Rodeo at the Kualoa Ranch in Ka`a`awa.

Lt. Governor Aiona today discusses the local economy and other critical state issues affecting the Big Island on radio station KPUA in Hilo. Issues include the start of a major initiative aimed at preventing the seasonal flu from spreading among children ages 5 to 13.
Reroofing project rallies community
Lt. Governor Aiona to draw attention Friday to a community-led reroofing project at Waiawa Correctional Facility, where a volunteer effort by a group of contractors have saved the state more than $200,000.
