Administration Shines Spotlight on Military Support
Supporting military families has long been a top priority for the Lingle-Aiona Administration, Lt. Governor Aiona said in a speech at a retirement ceremony on a submarine base at Pearl Harbor.
Lt. Governor Aiona congratulates Lt. Commander Robert L. Stevens during a retirement ceremony in his honor.
Speaking to more than 100 people who gathered to celebrate the retirement of Lt. Commander Robert L. Stevens, Lt. Governor Aiona expressed his appreciation for the U.S. military's contribution to the security and economy in Hawai’i, where the armed forces are second only to tourism in the jobs and revenue generated for the State.
The Lt. Governor also presented Lt. Commander Stevens with a commendation from the State. The Administration’s support comes as it draws attention to a key policy decision intended to help military families.
This month Hawai’i became the latest state that will work together with military families to help their children transition into the school system after moving into the State or as a result of deployment. Constant change, differences in school systems’ requirements, and access to academic extracurricular activities, prompted that concept of an Interstate Commission on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
Hawai’i joined the compact when Governor Linda Lingle signed it into law June 25.
For military families, this means one less thing to worry about as the move from base to base and children transfer from school to school.
