“As parents, we are the models for our children and our actions have the most significant influence and impact on their lives,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.  “It is crucial that we look at the home environment, in addition to the school environment, in developing positive values for tomorrow’s leaders,” the Lt. Governor added.

Over the next two weeks, the Lt. Governor will visit Wailuku and Kahului to promote family literacy.

“The Lt. Governor has been a strong supporter of the Read Aloud Program and with his help, the program has become the largest family literacy program in America,” Read Aloud America founder Jed Gaines said.  “It doesn’t matter if it is a large or small school; the Lt. Governor is devoted to encouraging reading for the entire family,” Jed Gaines added.

RAP began in 1999 and has served over 165,000 attendees and over 80 programs across Hawai‘i.  The program is a free community event at schools that brings families, businesses, community organizations and individuals together.
