The Lt. Governor will join the Arthritis Foundation and community members for the 2008 Honolulu Arthritis Walk on Saturday, April 26 at the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park in Kapolei.
It is estimated that more than 212,000 people in Hawai`i have arthritis, including hundreds of children.
In January, the Lt. Governor and children suffering from arthritis were featured in a public service announcement to raise awareness about the impact of arthritis in Hawai`i.
"Arthritis is a disease that can affect all of us," Lt. Governor Aiona said. "The public's support can help the Arthritis Foundation provide needed programs and services throughout the state."
The public awareness campaign will culminate in the Arthritis Walk, where the Arthritis Foundation hopes to attract approximately 1,000 volunteers and raise as much as $100,000 for the cause.
According to the Arthritis Foundation, more children are diagnosed with juvenile arthritis than juvenile diabetes, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy combined.
The Hawai`i Arthritis Walk is the largest fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation and is part of a national effort to raise awareness and funds for local programs and arthritis research.
