The Lt. Governor recognized the sailors during his featured remarks at the 36th Annual Pacific Fleet Sailor-of-the-Year Award Luncheon.

The event, organized by the Honolulu council of the U.S. Navy League, brought together more than 250 people to recognize the efforts of Justin Melton, a sailor from Newport News, Virginia, and Heather Strow, a sailor from Lancaster, California.

Both were presented with the Pacific Fleet Sailor-of-the-Year Award for excelling at their jobs.

The presentation followed remarks from Lt. Governor Aiona, who praised the sailors for the hard work they do defending the nation.

“Your tremendous sacrifices made in defense of our liberty are greatly appreciated,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “We are so lucky to have your service. And we congratulate all of you for modeling leadership traits that are crucial to our nation’s military.”

Following his remarks, Lt. Governor Aiona was presented with an “Honorary Shipments” plaque, symbolizing the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s appreciation for his participation in the event and Hawai‘i’s ongoing support of the military.
