State Aims To Prevent Child Abuse In Hawai`i
Continuing his efforts to strengthen families, Lt. Governor Aiona called on the West Hawai‘i community to help prevent child abuse in the state.
The Lt. Governor’s impassioned plea came during a “Healthy Families-Healthy Communities” event last week at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Hotel in Kona, where organizers kicked off “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in Hawai‘i.
More than 2,000 cases of child abuse or neglect are reported annually.
“Everyone has a responsibility to be involved in the protection of children,” Lt. Governor Aiona told a gathering organized by the Neighborhood Place of Kona, a community organization that caters to families. “Residents can provide assistance in these efforts through increased public awareness and partnerships among neighborhood groups, social services and law enforcement agencies, schools, civic organizations and businesses.”
