Hawai`i Marks Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Attack
The state paused Sunday to mark the 67th anniversary of the Dec. 7 attack on Pearl Harbor with heartfelt remembrances at the historic naval station site.
Lt. Governor Aiona was among the dignitaries who gathered with survivors and relatives of victims to pay silent respects at the USS Arizona Memorial.
“The attack on Pearl Harbor changed our understanding and way of life,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “And 67 years later, we continue to gather with great conviction to honor those 2,408 brave men and women who lost their lives.”
The ceremony included a floral tribute on board the USS Arizona Memorial and tearful remembrances as mourners and others expressed their support for the American troops.
“The story of Pearl Harbor is one worth remembering just as it was,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “No exaggeration is needed for effect. No tall tale is needed to help us remember. And it is a story that has touched the lives of every American and countless others across the world.”
