“We’re proud to have such outstanding, innovative companies and entrepreneurs here in Hawai`i,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.

The Lt. Governor was a featured speaker at the event, which drew small business owners and lenders from across the state to the Hawai‘i Prince Hotel in Waikiki.

During his remarks, Lt. Governor Aiona discussed recent efforts of the Lingle-Aiona Administration to alleviate costs of doing business in Hawai`i. On Jan. 1, the Administration enacted a new law that reduces the unemployment insurance tax wage base, which will save small businesses approximately $151 million over three years.

“We’re putting more resources in the hands of small businesses,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “Our Administration is committed to helping small businesses prosper in Hawai‘i.”

According to the latest available figures, the state’s 31,537 small businesses represent 97.8 percent of all firms in Hawai‘i in 2005. They also employ nearly 60 percent of the state’s 289,804 employees.
