Continuing his efforts to help provide affordable housing solutions in Hawai`i, Lt. Governor Aiona participated in a charity event on Saturday for Habitat for Humanity Maui.
The Lt. Governor joins Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares and Patrick Kilbride (dressed as Mr. Monopoly) to congratulate youth tournament winner Jarret Stinger.
The Lt. Governor credited Habitat for Humanity with helping the Lingle-Aiona Administration meet the growing demand for affordable housing on Maui.
“Affordable housing remains one of our Administration’s top priorities, and we will continue to aggressively pursue more affordable housing solutions with each passing day,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.
The charity event featured an official Monopoly Tournament to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The nonprofit organization is helping build homes for low-income families, including 12 self-help construction homes that are part of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands’ Waiehu Kou 4 subdivision.
During his remarks, the Lt. Governor outlined the Administration’s plans to provide more than 4,000 rental and for-sale affordable housing units across the state.
On Maui, plans include building more than 550 affordable housing units in the next four years.
“Our citizens cannot even begin to achieve their goals and ambitions if they cannot afford a basic home for their families,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.
