Mentoring Highlighted to Help Young People
January 8 - A statewide effort is underway to recruit volunteer mentors for young people.
The campaign is part of Mentoring Month in Hawai`i, which has been declared statewide throughout January, Lt. Governor Aiona announced during a news conference at the State Capitol.
"Mentors help teach our young people skills that are vital to a healthy, successful life, and they help shape the character of a future generation," Lt. Governor Aiona said. "Introducing a mentor into a young person's life can play a powerful role in preventing drug abuse and youth violence, while instilling compassion and responsibility to help them do their best in school."
In Hawai`i, many young people are waiting to be matched with a mentor.
"Our Administration appreciates the contributions of all those who serve as mentors, and encourages all the people of Hawai`i to get involved in mentoring programs to work with children who are at risk of not leading healthy, productive lives," Lt. Governor Aiona said.
