The Lt. Governor joined Governor Lingle in honoring University of Hawai`i football, women's volleyball and women's soccer teams, which won Western Athletic Conference championships during the school year.

The Lt. Governor greets new University of Hawai`i Warriors Football Coach Greg McMackin.

"The University of Hawai`i Warriors football team has helped to instill a sense of belonging among our entire Hawai`i `ohana," Lt. Governor Aiona said. "All three championship teams are models for our children to exercise more and live healthier lifestyles."

The University of Hawai`i Warriors football team finished an undefeated regular season with a 12-0 record, capturing the school's first outright WAC championship with a perfect 8-0 record. Ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation, the football team earned a spot in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and placed 11 members on the all-WAC first team.

The University of Hawai`i women's volleyball team won their 12th-straight WAC regular season title and their seventh-consecutive WAC Tournament title. The team finished the season with a record of 27-6, notching their 14th-straight season with more than 25 wins.

Capturing their third WAC regular season title and first WAC Tournament title, the University of Hawai`i women's soccer team participated in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament. The team shattered more than 30 school records and swept all major WAC individual awards, including offensive player of the year, defensive player of the year and coach of the year.
