As part of the Administration's ongoing emphasis on developing technology and innovation skills of Hawai`i students, Lt. Governor recently helped recognize aspiring youth filmmakers across the state.

Creative Skills of High School Students Recognized

Lt. Governor Aiona accepts the Kalo Award for "Most Dedicated Effort" on behalf of Saint Louis School.

The recognition was the key focus of the Kalo Awards Ceremony at Washington Place, where the creative skills of high school students were on display for a video competition.

For the video competition, students created television spots for neighborhood “mom and pop” stores across the state.

Lt. Governor Aiona joined organizers, the Hawai`i Event Group, in highlighting the efforts of the 12 finalists in this year’s video competition. In all, 30 schools from across the state participated in the event.

The Lt. Governor’s participation in the event comes at a time when the Administration is promoting the Hawai`i innovation Initiative, a comprehensive plan to transform the state’s economy from one dependent on land development to one that builds on the human ingenuity and ability to innovate and compete successfully in the global economy.

“Project-based learning such as what was showcased at the Kalo Awards helps develop the problem-solving and analytical skills that are crucial to successfully competing in the global market place,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.
