Creative Talents Highlighted at Video Competition
Lt. Governor Aiona helped to promote the creative skills of Hawai`i students Friday at the 5th Annual Youth Xchange Video Competition, designed to focus attention on important statewide issues.
The competition, sponsored by ‘Olelo Community Television, gave students from elementary, middle and high schools a critical voice on such issues as homelessness, substance abuse, healthy living and protecting the environment.
“I am pleased to be part of a competition that engages our young people in promoting social issues through the creative use of video technology,” Lt. Governor told attendees at the J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa in Ko Olina.
“This is all a great sign for the local economy as we work together to develop new and innovative ways to increase Hawai‘i’s ability to compete in the global economy,” he added.
A total of 30 winners received awards for their video entries. The winners were selected from more than 450 entries submitted by 70 schools.
"The level of awareness and understanding our youth have about issues that affect their lives and our community never ceases to amaze us," said Keali`i Lopez, president and CEO of `Olelo Community Television. "The students' dynamic and creative use of technology to express their views and voice their ideas about what can be done to address important issues is inspiring."
