Lt. Governor Helps Raise Funds for Hawai`i Families
The Lt. Governor joined KSSK's Sweetie Pacarro in selling special edition "Kids Day" Honolulu Advertiser newspapers on Wednesday to benefit Parents and Children Together (PACT), a non-profit family service agency.
Lt. Governor Aiona and his staff sold dozens of the $1 newspapers outside of the State Capitol for PACT, which has organized Kids Day since 1993.
Proceeds will benefit programs designed to strengthen families across the state.
Parents and Children Together has 13 programs on Kaua`i, Lana`i, Maui, Moloka`i and O`ahu. Services include early childhood education, child abuse and domestic violence prevention and treatment, and mental health support.
The financial goal of the annual fundraiser was $60,000 for the 10,000 families served by PACT. An estimated 1,000 volunteers were expected to turn out for the fundraiser.
The special Kids Day edition newspaper included tips for parents and teachers, as well as interactive materials for kids and student winners of the Kids Day Creativity Contest.
Governor Linda Lingle joined KSSK's Michael W. Perry and Larry Price later in the day to sell Kids Day newspapers at the same location.
