Renewing focus on financial literacy
The Administration continues to make financial literacy among Hawai`i teens a statewide priority. Starting Monday, high-school students in grades 9 through 12 will be able to sign up for the 2009-2010 LifeSmarts Consumer Education Competition, designed to teach teens to avoid the dangers of debt.
Lt. Governor Aiona praises the program as an important step towards countering the risk of raising a generation of young people who overspend, borrow more than they can repay, and save less than they should.
For more information about the program, visit www.lifesmarts.org or contact Jackie Choy, the program's coordinator, at 586-2760 in the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
