- 10/08/2009 - State budget to be addressed in West Hawai`i
- Linda Smith, the Governor's senior policy advisor, will address the State budget and fiscal outlook and the Lingle-Aiona Administration's five-point economic revitalization plan at a meeting of the Council of Neighbor Island Advisors for West Hawai`i. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Liquor Commission Conference Room. The public is invited to attend.

- Lt. Governor Aiona to draw attention Friday to a community-led reroofing project at Waiawa Correctional Facility, where a volunteer effort by a group of contractors have saved the state more than $200,000.

- Lt. Governor Aiona today discusses the local economy and other critical state issues affecting the Big Island on radio station KPUA in Hilo. Issues include the start of a major initiative aimed at preventing the seasonal flu from spreading among children ages 5 to 13.

- Consent forms are due Friday at schools offering free seasonal flu vaccines to prevent the virus from sickening large numbers of students. The state Department of Health and the Department of Education are taking steps to make sure that the seasonal flu does not disrupt learning in schools across Hawai`i.

- Lt. Governor Aiona today opens the 2009 Hawai`i Writers Conference, which features more than 1,500 authors, screenwriters, journalists, as well as top literary agents, editors and film executives from around the world.

- Hawai`i residents get an update today on the labor negotiations that are part of efforts to cure the state's financial troubles. Governor Linda Lingle will give a 30-minute web address, starting at 3 p.m. It will be carried live on the Governor's website at www.hawaii.gov/gov.

- Lt. Governor Aiona today participates in the Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit & Expo. The event will center on various renewable-energy initiatives and policies throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

- As the college football season gets underway later this week, Lt. Governor Aiona today will help the Athletics Department at the University of Hawai`i with a public-awareness campaign aimed at promoting good, fan behavior at Aloha Stadium.
- 08/30/2009 - Continuing to cut costs
- Lt. Governor Aiona participated in an emergency meeting with Governor Linda Lingle and other cabinet members over the weekend. The meeting was called to identify more ways to cut costs and close the growing budget gap.
- 08/28/2009 - Preparing for flu season
- Lt. Governor Aiona today holds a news conference at the State Capitol with health and education officials to get Hawai`i schools ready for the return of the flu season. The outreach is part of the "Stop Flu at School" program aimed at protecting students between ages 5 and 13 from outbreaks of the seasonal flu. The effort has been complicated by warnings nationally that the H1N1 virus may be a fact of life for many schools across the country this fall.
- 08/27/2009 - Motorcycle safety pushed
- Lt. Governor Aiona and transportation officials on Saturday will hold a news conference to encourage and promote motorcycle safety. The awareness campaign comes as Hawai`i is on pace to log a record number of motorcycle deaths this year.
- 08/25/2009 - Native Hawaiian Convention
- Lt. Governor Aiona today addresses the Native Hawaiian Convention. The event, in its eighth year, is expected to bring together an estimated 800 people to the Hawai`i Convention Center.
