Lt. Governor Aiona on Wednesday will announce during a news conference at the State Capitol results of a survey on illegal tobacco sales to Hawai`i children under age 18.
The statewide survey is believed to represent a dedicated effort to address youth tobacco consumption in Hawai`i, where stopping teens from taking up the habit has become crucial: 80 percent of smokers start by the time they are 18.
Lt. Governor Aiona will be joined by officials from the state Department of Health at the 10 a.m. news conference.
