Lt. Governor Aiona today announced plans for a deployment ceremony for about 1,700 soldiers who are with the Hawai`i Army National Guard.
The soldiers are being deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As part of the deployment ceremony planned for Aug. 16 at Aloha Stadium, the state will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest group hug. The idea to set the group hug record was suggested by a 10-year-old Punahou elementary school student.
