An estimated $20.1 million has been approved to make major improvements to four airports across the state.
The improvements by the Lingle-Aiona Administration call for replacing about 30 escalators at Honolulu International Airport by June 2010, and adding about 422 new parking stalls at Lihue Airport on Maui by December 2009.
Other improvements include building an extra 427 parking stalls at Hilo International Airport by December 2009 and a new commuter terminal at Kona International Airport.
The improvements are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's $2.3 billion Airports Modernization Plan, which covers a 12-year period.
