Today, Lt. Governor Aiona visits Wai`ane Elementary School to discuss the dangers of alcohol use.

The Lt. Governor's visit is part of the "Reach Out National Teach-In Initiative, designed to prevent underage drinking.

Across the state, alcohol is the most widely abused substance among Hawai`i youth. An estimated 27 percent of students had their first drink before age 13, according to statewide surveys.

Also, nearly one-in-five sixth graders believe it is easy to get alcohol. Also, 9 percent of current users in the sixth to twelfth grades drink every day, surveys show.
