Lt. Governor Aiona on Thursday will open the 2008 Hawai`i Tourism Conference by acknowledging challenges facing the visitor industry and emphasizing the importance of its leaders working together with the state to keep Hawai`i's main economic engine humming.
The event, set for the Hawai`i Convention Center, is expected to draw more than 500 representatives from the state's visitor industry. Tourism generates an estimated $11 billion for Hawai`i's economy.
