 Quote of the Week
"Instead of a special session, everyone should be focused on the immediate and fiscally responsible solutions currently available to restore instructional time for our children."

- Lt. Governor Aiona, on a contract negotiated by education officials to furlough teachers on 17 instructional days this year and next year.
 Fact of the Week
The Board of Education, Department of Education and Hawai`i State Teachers Association can pursue an amendment to the recently ratified contract that would allow for paycuts or shifting furloughs to non-instructional days. Alternatively, they can make it easier for parents and teachers to convert waiver and planning days to instructional time at the school level.
 Upcoming Events
November 10, Lt. Governor Aiona delivers remarks on the importance of reading to children - in the classroom and at home - on a regular basis to increase their prospects for success in school and life.
