LINGLE-AIONA ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCES EMERGENCY HOMELESS FOOD RULE

April 3 - Lt. Governor Aiona and Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino announced a new initiative to help groups and organizations prepare food for individuals and families who are homeless. Beginning April 3, the state is providing a 120-day exemption from Department of Health food preparation permit requirements for groups that prepare and serve food that will be provided at no cost to those who are homeless.

"This is a new opportunity for service providers and faith-based organizations to prepare food and feed the homeless," said Lt. Governor Aiona.

The new emergency food rule is part of the Administration's overall effort to help homeless residents become self-sufficient. A permanent administrative rule change is also being sought, and the Department of Health expects to go to a public hearing in May to make the rules permanent.
