LINGLE-AIONA ADMINISTRATION UNVEILS PANDEMIC FLU PLAN

March 22 - Lt. Governor Aiona, Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino, State Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Robert Lee and Tourism Liaison Marsha Wienert unveiled the Administration’s efforts to respond to Pandemic Flu and to increase public awareness. The Trust for America’s Health’s report “Pandemic Flu and the Potential for U.S. Economic Recession,” ranked Hawai`i as second in the nation behind Nevada for the potential economic losses in the case of a pandemic. “This report reinforces the need for us to continue our efforts to work collaboratively with the business community and inform the public,” said Lt. Governor Aiona. “In an influenza pandemic, we will need everyone to work together to be part of the solution.” The new “Share Aloha, Not Germs” public information campaign, which will run from March to June, was also announced, and aims to increase awareness of the pandemic threat and improve public health emergency preparedness.
