LT. GOVERNOR, DEPUTY DRUG CZAR DISCUSSES RANDOM STUDENT DRUG TESTING

March 27 - National Deputy Drug Czar Dr. Bertha Madras and Lt. Governor Aiona lead a discussion on random drug testing at a summit sponsored by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. "Random student drug testing will give parents one more tool to engage in a discussion about substance abuse," Lt. Governor Aiona said at the Sheraton Waikiki. "As a family court judge, I've seen too many tragedies that could have been avoided if we were more proactive." The summit brought together educators, students, parents, government officials and members of the community to discuss how student drug testing can be utilized as an effective prevention and intervention tool. "Youth between the ages of 12-25 are the most vulnerable to drug use," added Deputy Drug Czar Bertha Madras. "Consequences of drug abuse include medical, academic, economic, financial and addiction. This can be prevented by interupting the progression to addiction."
