LT. GOVERNOR, GOVERNOR MEET WITH YMCA YOUTH LEGISLATORS
March 29 - Lt. Governor Aiona and
Governor Lingle addressed middle and high school students who participated
in the 58th annual YMCA Youth Legislature. The week-long conference provided
students with a unique opportunity to participate in a mock legislative
session where they explored critical issues affecting Hawai‘i communities.
During the three months previous to the session, the students ran for
elected office, drafted bills and practiced public speaking. The Lt.
Governor encouraged students to share their experience of the youth
legislative session with their families and to have discussions about civic
responsibility.
“It is important for
you to have an idea of what government is about and for you to be involved
in it,” said Lt. Governor Aiona. “What is determined in our state
Legislature today will affect you in the
future.”
