LT. GOVERNOR HELPS PASS CLIMATE RESOLUTION
July 27 - Lt. Governor Aiona co-sponsored
a bipartisan resolution to combat climate change and invest in renewable
energy at the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) annual
conference in
Virginia.
The resolution encourages the
enactment of policies to reduce pollution and accelerate the development of
clean, economical energy resources and fuel-efficient technologies, such as
wind and solar energy and biofuels. Read the resolution
here.
The move is another facet of
the Lingle-Aiona Administration's environmental efforts. Hawai`i recently
became a founding member of The Climate
Registry, a multistate effort to track emissions that may contribute to
climate
change.
The Lt. Governor also weighed in on various panel discussions, from pursuing innovations for safer roads to preparing students for the 21st century workforce - a central focus of the Hawai`i Innovation Initiative.
"It was a good opportunity to hear different perspectives on issues that affect all states," said Lt. Governor Aiona. "In turn, I was able to educate other leaders about the steps we're taking in Hawai`i to move toward an innovation economy and increase our competitiveness in the global marketplace."
