LAW MAKES STATE COMMISSION OF FATHERHOOD PERMANENT
June 16 - In observance of Father’s Day, Lt. Governor Aiona joined Hawai`i
families at the Hawai`i Coalition for Dads’ Celebrating Father’s Day
event.
At the event and as Acting Governor, Lt. Governor Aiona signed SB
249 into law, making the State Commission of Fatherhood, which was organized
by the Hawai`i Coalition for Dads, permanent by repealing the sunset date on
the law that established it.
“It is important for fathers to be in the lives of their children,”
said Lt. Governor Aiona. “The role of fathers is to ensure the health and
well-being of their families.”
Lt. Governor Aiona also assisted in the “Father-Child
Look-Alike-Contest.” All entrants were judged on resemblance, interaction
and entry form questions that included favorite things father and child do
together and what makes dad and child
special.
