LT. GOVERNOR AIONA FACES OFF AGAINST COMEDIAN AUGGIE T. IN A COOKING COMPETITION FOR STATEWIDE CHARITY
June 30- The culinary skills of
the Lt. Governor and Mrs. Aiona were on display for a charity event in
Honolulu to benefit people across the state with disabilities.
The couple joined 30 chefs from Honolulu restaurants
for the debut of "Flavors of Honolulu," a cooking competition whose
organizers hope to develop into a major annual fundraiser to help support
programs that will allow hundreds disabled individuals to continue leading
productive lives.
In the contest, the Lt. Governor and Mrs. Aiona faced
comedian Auggie T. in the category for "low-income cooking," which featured
a variety of meals made from Spam and sardines. Five people from the
audience judged the dishes based on walk-up taste tests, which the Lt.
Governor won 3-2.
"Their cook-off was the best," said Karen Mukai, a
spokesperson for the organizer, Abilities Unlimited. "Everyone had a great
time."
