STATE RECOGNIZES ROBOTICS EDUCATION

July 11- Lt. Governor Aiona declared July 8 through 14 "Botball Week" in Hawai`i, reflecting a statewide focus on developing science, technology, engineering and math skills among middle and high school students.

He signed the proclamation with Gov. Linda Lingle and presented it during the 6th Annual National Conference on Educational Robotics at the Hawai'i Convention Center, where a record 65 Botball teams from as far away as Poland showed up for a high-tech competition with robots. The robots were programmed to maneuver on a game board without the need for a remote control.

"The turnout says that people recognize Hawai' i as a place that means business in terms of science and technology," said Rene Kimura, a local organizer of the event from the Hawai'i Space Grant Consortium.
