MAUI AND KAUA`i RESIDENTS NAMED TO STATE BOARDS, COMMISSIONS

Aug 31 - Lt. Governor Aiona traveled to two neighbor islands to preside over swearing-in ceremonies for residents appointed to serve on various boards and commissions, and Governor Lingle's Neighbor Island Community Advisory Councils.

On August 29, Lt. Governor Aiona visited Maui to express his appreciation to the 23 volunteers who were sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Richard T. Bissen to serve on boards that will help improve government oversight of such professional services as dentistry and public housing.

The Lt. Governor also recognized nine members of the Governor's newly established Maui Community Advisory Council.

"You are taking personal responsibility for the well-being of our state," Lt. Governor Aiona said. "Your leadership and expertise helps our government become more effective."

On August 31, Lt. Governor was on Kaua`i to oversee a similar ceremony for 33 residents who were sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe to serve on various boards whose review includes teacher standards and juvenile justice.

The Lt. Governor acknowledged nine other residents who were appointed to the Governor's Kaua`i Community Advisory Council, where they will have a stronger voice in state government.

"Governor Lingle and I encourage other Kaua`i residents to volunteer to serve on a board or commission," Lt. Governor Aiona said. "They provide valuable expertise and insights that help improve government services."
