Salvation Army Launches Red Kettle Campaign
Lt. Governor Aiona prepared for the return of the holiday season Monday by helping the Salvation Army launch its annual Red Kettle Campaign in Hawai`i.
With a goal of raising at least $700,000 to sustain its annual services to the community, volunteer bell ringers will be out in force through Dec. 24 gathering donations at more than 100 red kettles statewide at retailers and businesses, including Wal-Mart, Safeway Supermarket and Longs Drugs.
In the midst of economic challenges rooted in national and international factors, Salvation Army officials know they will be hard-pressed to reach their goal, but Lt. Governor Aiona remains hopeful.
“I trust that the people of Hawai‘i will rise to the occasion and help others throughout our state in their time of need,” said Lt. Governor Aiona, who along with Governor Linda Lingle was a volunteer bell ringer at Bishop Square in downtown Honolulu.
