The event aims to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, which affects an estimated 108,000 adults across the state.

“Our Administration is very supportive of residents who are working to overcome their substance abuse issues,” Lt. Governor Aiona said in announcing February as Drug-Free Hawai‘i Awareness Month in the state.

“While there has been increasing success in alleviating the crisis of substance abuse in Hawai‘i, recent studies show there’s still more work ahead,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “We greatly appreciate the efforts of community organizations that are actively involved in preventing substance abuse.”

Under the theme “I’m Free To Be Me, When I’m Drug Free,” the Coalition for a Drug-Free Hawai‘i organized this year’s eighth annual event.
