The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service organized the event for the naturalized citizens, who are natives of 32 different countries, including Russia, China and France.

“Today, we celebrate a new beginning for all of you, and congratulate you on this important achievement,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “Taking the oath of allegiance is a serious matter, as are the responsibilities of being a U.S. citizen.”

Of the 225 new citizens, 129 were from the Philippines, 18 were from China and 11 were from Korea.

The oldest naturalized citizen in the group was a 74-year-old woman from the Philippines; the youngest citizen was a 19-year-old woman who was also from the Philippines.

“As new citizens, it is your personal responsibility to be active, educated and involved,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “One person can make a difference, but you need to be engaged to make it happen.”
