The Lt. Governor greeted community members who lined the Kailua 4th of July parade route.

For the Fourth of July event in Kailua, the Lt. Governor walked with Governor Linda Lingle, meeting and conversing with residents along the parade route.

The event drew more than 1,000 to the parade along Kainalu Drive, stretching about a mile from Palapu Street to Kailua Intermediate School. The event was organized by the Kailua Chamber of Commerce.

Hours later, the Lt. Governor and Mrs. Aiona were at Vidinha Stadium on the island of Kaua‘i, participating in an Independence Day fundraiser for the Kaua‘i Hospice, which provides end of life care to people diagnosed with terminal illnesses.

An alluring feature of the event was an aerial fireworks show, called “The Concert in the Sky,” which attracted an estimated 8,000 spectators. As part of his remarks at the event, Lt. Governor Aiona touched on the recent passing of Kaua‘i Mayor Bryan Baptiste, remembering him as a “compassionate leader, a tireless community advocate and a beloved native son.”
