Maui and Kona Residents Sworn In

Lt. Governor Aiona welcomed new volunteers on Maui and West Hawai`i who have been appointed to serve on various state boards and commissions, where they are playing a key role in improving government service and making the state a better place to live and work.

The Lt. Governor traveled to Maui to offer his support to 52 concerned citizens from Maui and who have been appointed to serve on 31 state boards and commissions in Hawai‘i.

The Lt. Governor participated in their swearing-in ceremony at the Maui County Council Chambers in Wailuku, where they pledged to help shape the future of Hawai‘i.

“We appreciate your commitment to volunteer your time and talent to serving the people of Hawai‘i,” Lt. Governor Aiona told the volunteers as they prepare to serve  in areas as diverse as the University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents, Advisory Council on Pesticides and the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority. “By volunteering your time expertise to serve the public, you are helping to make our communities and state stronger.”

Lt. Governor Aiona also traveled to Kona to participate in the swearing-in of 29 West Hawai‘i residents to serve on 17 different state boards and commissions.

“These public servants have shown strong leadership and character in choosing the path of public service,” Lt. Governor Aiona said.

Statewide, nearly 1,300 volunteers are serving on more than 160 state boards and commissions that advise the Lingle-Aiona Administration on a broad range of issues.

Maui and Kona residents are the latest to receive recognition from the Administration for service. On June 19th, Lt. Governor Aiona joined Governor Linda Lingle at a swearing-in ceremony for O‘ahu residents.

Before that, he visited Kaua‘i on June 13th for the swearing-in ceremony for 48 residents. A day earlier, the Lt. Governor traveled to the Big Island to preside over a similar ceremony for 36 East Hawai‘i residents.

Next, the Lt. Governor will be on Moloka‘i to preside over the swearing-in ceremony of Moloka‘i residents.
