He also pointed out in the speech at the Leadership Kaua‘i Annual Adult Program Graduation that all residents have a role to play in improving their community for themselves and for others.
“I want to encourage all of you to seek ways to impact your community positively,” Lt. Governor told 19 adults who graduated from the leadership-training program. “This is about what each and every one of you can do to help your communities, help your families and help our state.”
The Lt. Governor went on to tell graduates of the leadership program that they do not have to be elected officials to successfully take on leadership roles in their communities. “We all know the importance of community service,” he said. “It links us to the wider community and exposes us to people and situations outside our everyday experiences.”
He added that community service “helps us develop new skills, assume responsibilities and become aware of the needs of others. But most of all community service teaches us how to give and serve unselfishly.”
