Governor Lingle looks on as Lt. Governor Aiona delivers remarks to O`ahu residents who were appointed to various boards and commissions.

The Lt. Governor joined Governor Linda Lingle on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony for 259 O‘ahu residents who will help the Administration improve such services as tourism, health care and transportation.

They were applauded for their willingness to assist with efforts to continue strengthening standards in such areas as mental health, public safety and historic preservation.

The Lt. Governor offered the same recognition when he visited Kaua‘i on June 13th for the swearing-in ceremony for 48 residents appointed to serve on various state boards and commissions. A day earlier, the Lt. Governor traveled to the Big Island to preside over a similar ceremony for 36 East Hawai‘i residents.

Statewide, nearly 1,300 people serve on more than 160 boards and commissions that were established by state laws, the state constitution or executive orders.

“We are proud to attract so many qualified candidates to provide specific areas of expertise to our boards and commissions,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “By volunteering their time and expertise to serve the public, these residents are helping to make our communities and state stronger.”
