Lt. Governor Honors Women Achievers
The Lt. Governor and Mrs. Aiona helped honor the achievements of professional women from Hawai`i's Filipino community on Saturday at the 54th annual Terno Ball.
The event, sponsored by the Hawai‘i Filipino Women’s Club, brought together more than 200 people to recognize four women who have excelled in the fields of journalism, architecture, engineering and entrepreneurship.
In recognizing their accomplishments, Lt. Governor Aiona credited the women with setting a “shining example” for all residents of Hawai‘i.
“They are breaking through barriers in innovative, high-skilled careers that we’re looking to advance in order to remain competitive in the global economy,” Lt. Governor Aiona said, referring to the Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative.
“And most importantly, the women who have been honored are showing our young Filipino-American girls that they too can accomplish major feats and do so while keeping a rich, cultural tradition intact,” he said.
The Lt. Governor also recognized the efforts of the Hawai‘i Filipino Women’s Club, citing its outreach to such groups as the Hawai‘i Food Bank and the United Way as examples of its important contribution to the state.
