At Kualapu‘u Elementary School, the Lt. Governor urged parents to read with their children and spend quality time on their children’s intellectual growth.

“It is easier to build strong children than to fix broken adults,” Lt. Governor Aiona told parents, children and school administrators who attended the family literacy event.

The Lt. Governor went on to tout the program’s ability to develop positive values that make children in Hawai‘i less likely to take drugs, drop out of school or end up in prison.

As part of the program, Lt. Governor Aiona read a book to children and their parents.

Afterward, the Lt. Governor received written comments from at least 65 parents, who expressed their appreciation for his involvement in the program, which is seeking to reach more than 140,000 adults and children in Hawai‘i this year.
