The dedication ceremony paves the way for the new library to serve thousands of students and faculty members for decades to come.

The Lt. Governor said libraries are "among the most vital facilities in any community," pointing out that the Lingle-Aiona Administration released $26.4 million to improve and build public libraries statewide during fiscal years 2007 and 2008.

He also expressed confidence that Chaminade’s new 30,000-square-foot library will prove its worth at the university.

“Libraries are centers of learning for residents of all ages,” Lt. Governor Aiona told more than 150 people during his remarks at the dedication ceremony. “This library will expose students to technology and bolster their education in all subjects.”

The library is part of the university's plans to upgrade its campus. Ground was broken for the project in April 2006.

The library’s collection includes 34,000 electronic books and 70,000 print books. The Sullivan family contributed $6 million to the philanthropic project.

“This is the beginning of the transformation of Chaminade University,” Lt. Governor Aiona said. “The university now has the resources to take its students above and beyond.”
